Fresh water

We are changing the way the followers of the Yoruba Americana' practice spiritual traditions, we encourage expression with a modern outlook, applying the principles of sociology, psychology and science to enhance this beautiful belief system. I won't apply the word ''religion'' to this new form of thinking, many readers as yourself see religion as a trap, or a way to control others and here at Santo Products blog we value the abilities of freedom as even God of the old testaments expressed, We are FREE, Born FREE to choose!
Our desire is to continue this freedom although there maybe those that wish to confine themselves with rules of do's and don'ts.  I will only honor freedom with traditional customs. If it smells like repression I will shout it out as the old Ball and Chain Theory. Join us for a adventure of spiritual yoruba freedoms with no holds bars, just magic at a higher conscience.
We are offering you "Fresh-water", omi ti ko ni iyo ninu re or said omi-mimu.

The customary way in the cuban tradition of orisha worship covens, use the expression " omi tutu" which is fresh water, but what was forgotten is that the yoruba language is three dimensional unlike english or spanish. Many state that the language was lost, or bits remain, so 99 percent of followers still use this slang or we can change.
We can continue with this error or we now can correct the mistakes of our forefathers. One of Oprah Winfrey's sayings that's a favorite of mine is "when you know better, you do better".
Now that I have access to yoruba translations, and the valuable resource the internet offers us, there is no reason to continue in this ignorance. This fresh knowledge, the correct grammar is what I offer as fresh water. Drink if you are thirsty, drink now clean clear information that is fluide to your soul and body. To honor higher understanding I drink from the goblet of knowledge for it's my freedom from enslavement.

African grey red tail feathers

The red feather of the african grey is not a novelty but a required item in the yoruba religion. This feather has the authority to invoke prestige in the yoruba community. Its possession, is reserved only for selected priest to wear. This feather is a symbol of their rank in the community. Its ultimate power and ability is to attract the ever seeing eye of Olofin. The presence of this simple; yet beautiful plumage, bestows blessing from Olofin himself.

These feathers come from the Psittacus erithacus species. Its common name is African Grey, Congo grey. The name for this bird in yoruba is “iko ode". The grey by far is the favorite of olofin, although Olofin has many familiars, all of nature serves the lawgiver yet the greys feathers garnish his crown.

The reason for the feathers authority comes into play in the Odu (Ogbe-she). One of the legends of the Pataki of Ogbe-she state: "The gray was not always grey it was a white feather bird".  Olofin always had special favoritism for the grey because of his playfulness and his special humorous dance; not to mention, his great ability at mimicking the human voice. This special consideration created envy from the other birds of the forest. Many of the other forest creatures felt that they should have Olofin eye since they had extravagant bodacious plumage. Some even believed that there mear size or skills should have earned them admirable consideration, "Not this small, white and unimpressionable looking bird". The birds of the forest gathered and plotted to end this relationship.

One day, the grey and all the forest animals received an invitation that Olofin was having one of his feast. All of Olofin's invites where to attend. That night, the grey had a nightmare that chilled his bones. Confused by this dream; which felt so real, the grey decided to visit the divining oracle of Orumila.

The oracle was invoked and Ifa marked the odu of ogbe-she. The oracle expressed to the grey "you have many enemies plotting your demise". The oracle told him of a special invite. That he should attend but he was not to arrive on time. It said to offer the spirit of destiny an offering, to alter the evil that was already in motion. The last advice was "no matter what the circumstance, he should continue his journey or destination as much as he felt to quit or go back".  The oracle expressed if he offered destiny the gifts, he would be uplifted into a unimaginable status. The grey did the offering to destiny and went on his way to the feast.

“The plan of the enemies” plotted to capture him, pour ash and red palm oil on him as a prevention from the grey's arriving to the feast giving them the opportunity to sweet talk Olofin’s ear. As the grey left his offerings at the the shrine of destiny the villains did as planned. They tied, poured ashes, and smeared with red palm oil.

Olofin waited for his favorite to arrive with his humorous dance and mimicking, but the grey did not arrive. Concerned that the grey had refused the invite, Olofin's mood sadden.  The party dragged and the creatures of the forest attempted to appease the the lawgiver with shows of there beautiful displays of plumage and bird calls, but all this was of little amusement to Olofin.

After what seemed as endless hours of untying himself, the grey felt disappointed that after the oracles advice and his offering to destiny this would occur. He remembered the oracle telling him to continue no matter the situation, but he so desired to return home and change- after all his beautiful white feathers had been ruined and Olofin favored the color white.
Destiny pushed him forward, the grey decided to arrive at the party as is. To the surprise of the villains, Olofins attention was drawn to the screams and gasps from all the invitees as the grey entered with the funniest of dances and danced he did. Olofins humor returned. The party was a festive event again. The animals of the forest not recognizing the grey, but because Olofins laughs uplifted the party all seem well with this new comer. Olofin spotted the grey and approached him The grey gave first the reverence to olofin. Olofin gives the grey his blessing and lifts him from the ground and asked why did you arrive to my invite so late, its not honorable to keep me waiting and in this appearance. The grey apologized and told Olofin that some bandits had delayed  him, pouring ash and oil over his feathers but he didn’t have time to change, because Odu, via Ifa had instructed him to never go back, to continue on his mission.  Olofin upset over the audacity of these vile creatures, ascends to his throne. The creatures of the forest all drop to the ground as the lawgiver is about to speak, Olofin decrees “ As of this moment on all ritual ceremony, offerings made should contain the red feather of the grey, as now he shall be known, The feather will be added so I may look upon it, giving it my blessing. If the offerings are without this, I will not look upon your ceremony, or offerings. TO ABAN ISHU.

This is the reason why the african grey feather is now one of the important ingredients in our offerings or when performing ceremonies in orissa, This feather should be applied to the ebbo of the iyawo so Olofin notices the rituals and ceremonies being done to the Iyawo. when offering to the spirit of destiny (ESU), there needs to be a feather in place, All ebbos are delivered to olofin, you may offer Obatala, Yemaya, Shango, any offering but it is taken first and  presented to olofin by the orisa to receive the blessing of the lawgiver, This information is not well known or understood, many think the asking orissa is the one eating the gift, Orisa ask their fathers blessings first. For all things must be approved by the one and only OLOFIN..
“No deed good or bad can occur if its not approved by the divine”

There is one other Pataki about red feather, that I will add next. The Crown of Obatala.

Obatala King of the white cloth

Yoruba: Ibantan ti okan (kin of one)

The supreme being known as Obatala is known by many names and many paths or avatars.. Obatala is one entity with different titles at different continuance of life. To understand what I'm about to write, you first must be immersed in the science of a mathematical process used in physics named binary code.
The definition is as follows.
(A coding system using the binary digits 0 and 1 to represent a letter, digit, or other character)

This same process is used in Ifa, one equals two, and two equals one. when the priest of Orula is divining, he uses a complex math to determine the mark of a line, a positive or a negative. When the Ikins or the Okpele marks two position its representing one mark, when it marks one position it two marks. here is a better example.  The system is the binary of 256 if you divide this down by two you end up with one. 256/2=128/2-64/2=32/2=16/2=8/2=4/2=1

There are 256 positions or possibilities in Ifa, Orula had 16 senior apostles.there are 4 cardinals points on earth, and 1 center point “Earth” the here and now. This all may seem a bit vague, it will all make sense as we take this journey. Olodumare’s mother is Olorun. Olorun is the name of the birth energy.

Between Olorun and olodumare obatala was conceived. Olodumare then takes the task to create all things in the cosmos, what we call the physical matter realm. while Olorun is the spiritual unseen realm. It is recorded in the odu that Obatala is the embodied odu of Orogan known as Ofun meji in the system of the Cowrie(Adele) Orogan was the first to arrive on a shapeless structure earth but returned to heaven because of his temperament.  (we are speaking of deities that are multi dimensional)

Olodumare decided on reducing the citizens of heaven for heaven had become so overly populated with too many different species. Olodumare desired to transplant some of its citizens to earth. Olodumare requested that his child iyekun meji, take on the task, but days before obatala’s private oracles had instructed him to offer an offering to the spirit of destiny (Esu), the oracle foretold of obatala's greatest evolution if he followed the advice of the irunmoles. Obatala gave Esu a feast to honor Esu, sacrificing a goat at Esu’s shrine. Esu in generosity, informs Obatala what was olodumares  desired mission in minimizing heavens population.

Obatala wanting this task for himself decided in  deceiving Eyekun by having Eyekun consume his favorite drink of Palm wine (a weakness of eyekun) convincing him to celebrate  and drink with his younger brother.  Eyekun at first refused because of his mission to meet with their father, but obatala insisted and Eyekun accepted His brothers offer, one drink led to countless amounts leaving Eyekun with a hangover. The following day as olodumare waited for his son to arrive, became inpatient and noticed that his beautiful younger son Obatala was present, It seemed obvious to him that Eyekun was not up for the task, Olodumare decided in giving Obatala the task to relocate the citizens. Before olodumares plan could occur the new destination needed certain processes to be implemented,
When Obatala received his fathers blessings and his entourage he begins the  departure from heaven, The quantum leap caused a ripping through the fabric of space and time, from one dimension to ours, this generated a great explosion of energy and light, (The recurring event we see today as the rising sun), the opening of the day is the testimonial of Obatala’s arrival..

This event teaches that although Eyekun, Iwori and Orogan are older by age they lost their status by their younger brother. Its not a person's age or seniority , but the wielding of wisdom, of obedience  that gives a high ranking status.

The dynasty of Obatala is extensive crediting him on the formation of the earth, being the two physical parts of the top and bottom east and west hemisphere, creator of the human body structure, The atmosphere, guardian of the garden of eden.  Everything which consists of creation on a physical term is obatala.  The legends tell that the earth was a two part merger of obatala, the top part being a male obatala, and the bottom a female obatala. Esu is the line, or the break between the two, Esu is the separation of one whole into two parts.

The dynasty is too complex to divide but one can account their are the males obatala’s, and the females. and then there are those that are so ancient we don’t know their sex. Although humans label things in sexes, I regard Obatala as a “Asexual Deity” Obatala is similar to one of his favorite pets “The snail”. Snails do not require a sex partner to conceive, they can self inseminate, self reproduction.

I have included the names of  forty three Obatala’s,There are Obatala’s of different ranks, as we see in Olofin, Odudua, Aremu.

The list of names/paths titles:

1.Ayalua,(known also as Bojueleso mother of shango,) 2.{Moro Elefa} this one walks with oshun) 3.Aguema, 4.obatala oloyu okuni, 5.obatala osha orulu, 6.okeylu, 7.ayelu, 8.ala albalashe, 9.Ayaguna, 10.anasuare, 11.baba oshagrinNan, 12.Obamoro,13.obalufon, 14.ogan, 15.orishanla, 16.yemu, 17.okeilu, 18.yelu, 19.olufon, 20.oguiniyan, 21.eluaye, 22.obalabi,23.yeku yeku, 24.ariba iya yeku yeku ife, 25.eluforo, 26.oshanla, 27.orisha aye,28.obon, 29.obanla, 30.aikalambo, 31.airanike, 32.oyu alueko, 33.orisha igbin, 34.oeylade, 35.ekindire, 36.orisha obabala, 37. bibinike, 38. osheribo, 39.ekanike, 40.adegu,41.fururu,42.abani,43.asho,

Once again I will write about this label we call paths or avatars. To understand this process we visit the topic of reincarnation. Each avatar is the embodied  physical incarnation of divine spark of each orisa, we too are in a constant evolution toward perfection, our soul, “that which is the part closely related to the Source of all things” Our soul has no end it will continue to exist as Source does, as energy can only transform itself.

Confirmation from oshun

 March 29,2013

Oshun sends me a visual Confirmation of her ever presence in my life.
On Friday 29, of 2013 a very special event occur, as some of you may know this date is Holy friday
or passover friday, I had been worrying about a major problem in my life, I had been feeling my spiritual energy slipping, I was so depressed that I started smoking cigarettes, a habit I had stopped so long ago, I was just a emotional reck, I was losing hope, my faith was questionable. while sitting out on my porch contemplating the worst, fantasizing the worst outcome, I drew my heart and attention to call upon oshun, I say in a loud voice, Mother you told me in ITA that when the world didn't want me to want you! when I didn't want the world! to want you! that although my father or mother didn't want me, to want and believe in you! Mother I need a side that you are with me, that you are walking this journey with me, I need a sign, I need evidence that you are real! I was broken.

My brother called me in to have dinner and watch a movie, we did. I decided to rest, My brother heads out to walk my dog (Maximus), at his return he charges in the room and tells me Dan! there are two Large birds walking in front of your house by the car port and they have a weird crown, as if they are peacocks!, one is all white, I said thats impossible first peacocks are colorful and what would peacocks be doing walking my yard, he convinces me to see for myself, all this time, I had forgotten my request to oshun.

I walked out to the yard, to my amazement two beautiful peacocks,  one all in white, I told my brother help me catch them! All we really did was usher them into the gated backyard.  I told my brother this is a sign from oshun, I had asked her for a sign and she sends me her favorite birds, and just to assure me that this is more than a coincidence one of them the male is white.

oshun is my crowning Orisa and my father figure, guardian orisa is Obatala, King of the white cloth. Anything and everything that is pure & white belongs to Obatala. How clearer could the message be. Weeks passed as I waited for someone to calm them.no one ever did, all this time. still with some apprehension I didn't give them names. I didn't want to become attach to them then have someone come along and calm them. One morning I noticed the true beauty of these birds, I said If they showed up here after me asking for a sign and oshun sending me. not just any sign but her favorite birds, Birds that are representative of the queen of beauty. they are gifts, I will care for them as I have been entrusted to care for my mothers symbolic messengers.

I looked at the white peacock and asked myself what would I name you? I thought a moment, it came to me, these birds were a symbol of faith, to never lose faith in the divine.  I named them in yoruba language. The white, became "Temi Igbagbo" translation "I have Faith" I thought of the females name to be, and thought I have always wanted these animals, it came to me, "Emi ala mushe" translation  "My dreams fulfilled"
A few months later on september 6 the day of yemaya, the female disappears, I get into a frantic worry, I tell my brother if something happens to that bird oshun will have my hyde,  I must find her, I have all the neighbors on the lookout for the bird, she was no where to be found, I was a pure mess I once again looked to the heavens and said Oshun please! I didn't want the bird to be hurt nor did I want to be punished, I got the thought if the female left the male would leave me too then everything I had worked so hard for oshun would take it all back, I decided to obtain a peacock to keep faith with companionship, I brought home a male all beautiful, blue chested peacock. faith now had a friend till I could arrange to find a new female. I beg oshun all day asking for forgiveness, I told her I didn't do it on purpose, that yes  it was my fault not locking the gates but to please forgive me and that I had brought her a beautiful blue male. The day ended  the following day was Oshuns day, that morning I was awaken by the peacocks screaming, I jumped out of bed expecting the worst. To my surprise I now had three peacocks, My dreams fulfilled had returned. I celebrated with praise to oshun, praised the Orisa, but then thought Okay now what! The second male I named him "Lewa"
"Beauty"
Oshun and I are happy.

This is one of many experiences, I have had with Oshun, She has saved my life, and guarded me with a careful loving eye.  Any time doubt tries to creep in I head out to the yard and look for the citizens as I call them and say, I have faith! oshun makes sure that my dreams are fulfilled. Oshun is watching me, oshun provides me stability.

Oshun mi esegun.

The Origins of Oshun

The Origins of Oshun

Iʼm starting this blog to address many questions regarding the Orisa Oshun, Over the last eighteen years I have researched this topic with little finding and lots of miss guidance, My plans are to input the correct information I have gathered through the years, A lot of my teachings have come to me from yoruba worship temples and now from IFA training.I promise not to reveal in depth information, If you have questions

please feel free to write, Under the rites of IFA which contain the origins of the folklore from African tradition, states that oshun is the daughter of Olofin (The Law Giver) and Nana Buruku ( Cruel Mother-The Night Sky) Olofin only had two children one male Shango(The Divine one Olodumare Hand of Justice) one female oshun. Born on a large Clam shell arriving at the borders of the ocean and river. It is oshunʼs role entrusted by her father the art of communication from the religious priesthood's to him Olofin. the river is the dominion that suits her best, for it cites the birth and departure of life, one must cross the river of heaven to arrive on earth, it being Orisa or Human. ( I will speak more on this later ) oshun represents all that is femme, she is the owner of Honey and laughter, theses suit her well, for with her laughter she announces destruction or peril, with honey oshun is able to sweeten the most stern hearts or transform a bitter demeanor to a intoxicated lover.
The folklore goes to state that she had requested to be different from the rest of the other female orisa when she would descend from heaven (Olurun), oshun asked Yemaya to give her the secrets so she may be different in appearance when she arrived to Ife, she desired to have a thin waist and her skin tone to be the color of honey, in exchange for this secret, she gave some of her Hair to Yemaya, oshun keeping the rest
using it to create the craft of Hair dressing which is still practice till today, The exchange of hair for beauty would be a small price to pay unknowing the true cost of being the most beautiful of the orisa. She was so divine that one night her father Olofin had to much palm wine, becoming to intoxicated causing himself to rape his Child, in this coarse oshun learned not only the emotions of Love but of hate and revenge, Those whom know of oshun know that she represents Love, Joy, Sexuality, Charity,, deep in her soul lies a bitter side,a stern dry demeanor, Hate, vengeance, bitterness are part of her inner personality. Oshun is the representation of The struggles of Life.  Oshun was designated by her father Olofin to be the chief priestess of the cult of the Ancestral Mothers the Cult of (IYA-LORDE) This commandment is stated in the Odu Oshe Tura, which is a cult still practice till this very day in Nigeria Africa, in the town of Osogbo. In the Odu Iroso Ka Orula certifies her the Apetebi and his wife despite her faults.  Oshun has influence the life's of all of the orisa in one way or another, in the Odu Ofun kana she saves Asowano (Babalu Aye) life, in Odu iroso ka, she saves the world from destruction, Orisa Oya from her enemies in the Odu Eyiogbe, in the Odu oshe Leso saves the love of Yemaya for Ogun. All of these endeavors have costed her the same
price, her body and Flesh.

Oshunʼs favorite sati-factional Husband is Orisa Inle(Water hole by the Streams or rivers, sometimes in the Woods) with which they had one child Orisa Logun Ede (The androgenesis)

I will write more on this orisa latter on, with Osha-Odduduwa (Spirit of the shadows or Darkness that brings Light) she gave birth to Orisa Oloshe with Osha-Orula(The Shadow that follower us,Witness of Creation) she had many daughters one in particular is Orisa Poroye, but the husband she had the most children was with Orisa Obatala (King of the white Clothe), which is why till this day, a majority of obatalaʼs Priests have oshun as their second guardian, or mother as some say. Oshun has many avatars or paths 29 in IFA/OSHA that can be crown a few more that are not, INCLUDING Logun Ede??? , many may ask why do orisa have these avatars, its because our religion is based on reincarnations, IFA teaches us that all of the Odu,Orisa and Osha have returned at one point or another back to heaven. when they returned back to earth they would state a different name or there carnal parents would name them differently if you understand African culture, when a child is born he or she is taken to a Awo a Priest of Orula so that childʼs destiny is revealed and is named. You ask Why the reincarnations? just like human beings the orisa have faults, they failed in performing the needed ebbos(Offerings) in heaven before there departures so they could have success in there new form, these ebbos were recommendations from the
Irumoles( 401 Divine spirits of heaven).

I am a Priest or Iworo of Oshun( Ibu Yumu ) my father is Obatala, my Iruko(name)is “Oşun mi esegun” “Oshuns my Victory” pretty Cool name, oshun has given me everything in my life in one form or another, sometimes even the things I should not have, but how can one learn if not through our pains and sorrows, donʼt get me wrong it has not been all negative, IFA teaches us that there is no bad luck, its that we didnʼt have the wisdom to obtain success. If I ask oshun for a Million dollars
and she grants me such a fortune, do I really have the knowledge on how to use the money. yet If I did ebbo and received the guidance on how too and what too spend the money on, would success not be by my side, would it not last my life time. One must always ask for (Itona) guidance first and our lives would run smother just like pouring honey. This is learn in Oshe Meji the arrival of riches on Earth, and in Ogunda Meji when the armaments, gems and mentals arrive on earth, from heaven.  I would like to mention thy most important Orisa to receive if possible, is ORI, its the orisa of your soul/consciousness its the orisa that enters our head at birth, it takes an oath in Odu Ogbe Odi before olofins feet, its oath is to live a certain life right before entering our mind. If Ori follows the oath Life is successful, if it faults hmmm, attempt to amend it ASAP. Our guardian orisa serves Ori, not the other way around. our orisa is our Crown, Ori lies in our head. Ask me questions for my next Blog post.
Emi bere Ibulaye fun Itona fifun mi Tito Oşun I ask permission for

Oshun is thy most important female Orisa in the yoruba system. I am not saying that Yemaya, Obba,Oya, etc are not, but Oshunʼs role in IFA/Osha are indisputable. All of Orisa, oshaʼs have there own Ashe Wind, fire, strength, but oshun knows how to tap these forces, using all of the I.O.Uʼs the other Orisa have with this majestic Queen.

Note:

On many of the names or paths of oshun are included a Odu, I will speak on my oshun

Ibu Yumu is born in Ika Meji the word IKa in yoruba means cruelty meji means double or

two, double crueltyʼ does this mean my path is cruel no! it means that there are many

things in her life that were, its a odu of strife and great gains, this Odu makes the arrival

of refined oil and fine string, these two object while in heaven were told to do Ebbo to

have great success on earth, they followed the guidance and when a Awo on earth was

in his darkest hour IFA told him” his ebbo required fine oil and string, and to light it with

fire, Awo IKA meji did so and obtained what we have now as oil lamps to light our

darkest Hour.

Although my oshun is born in IKA meji My opening Odu is Ogbe she, which is the Odu

of great power its the Odu Oshun herself nurtured, its folklore is of the African Grey

parrot. Its a odu of dis-considerations of others towards you, the Lore goes

That the African grey is Olofins favorite Bird, and made him laugh with his dancing, the

other Birds of the forest, hated him for this reason and plotted against the grey, so they

gathered powders of coal, and palm oil.

Olofin decided to invite all of his creations to a feast, expecting the Grey to arrive on

time to amuse him with his dance, The grey on his way to the feast was ambushed by

the other birds and they poured the coal dust and painted his tail feather with the red

palm oil, The grey had done Ebbo and didn't understand the cause yet, and was

concerned how Olofin would receive him in such a condition, but remembered the

advise of Ifa and went as is, olofin waiting became concern that the Grey didʼt arrive, but

short after the grey arrives with his Dance and Olofin laughing and enjoying the dance,

awaiting to approach the grey, the Grey offers his Moforibale to Baba and excuses for

his delay, Olofin ask what has happen to you, the grey explains of his misfortune on his

way to the feast, olofin becoming upset makes an Order address to all his creations, “

From this day Forth, Any and all Ebbo will contain the red tail feather of the Grey, When

there is a Yoko Osha, i will not give my blessings if there is no greyʼs red feathers at the

reunion TO BAN EhSU!

So when offering ebbo to which ever orisa there must always be a african grey red

feather in the ebbo so Olofin may receive it, this said My oshun warnings are that I

would live a life where people would not even open the door for my arrival because of

jealous, yet they are the one to lose the most, it makes my life a bit difficult too, but if I

do ebbo I will alway have success and favor of olofin himself. The oduʼs I speak of is a

vessels of great amount of information, this which I have share is but a faction, back to

My oluoso orisa (guardian)

in the odu marks my orisa to have a crown of grey feathers, oil lamps, to light my dark

hours, this odu also states when Ogbeshe is lanced we all shall eat well and prosper.

so one must look at the odu of ones orisa and her birth odu to be able to see what is her

advise to you, her struggles are not yours we at times state oh My Oshun behaves like

this or that, NO! those are hers to bear if you behave in that manner thats YOU! there

are some behaviors that are witnessed in her children but those are also defined by one

owns choice, or in up brings ethics etc. So if oshun went to bed with Ogun to fool him

into thinking it was Yemaya in bed, does this mean I would sleep with my brothers wife,

or sister husband to save there marriage HELLS NO! THIS BEHAVIOR IS NOT A

POSITIVE THING SO HOW CAN I EXPECT TO IT WORK OUT FOR THE BEST. I

could do is do ebbo for my brother or sister and have Oshun do her VOODOO lol in

solving the problem. lets use common sense Positive attracts Positive and Negative

attracts Negative

Information and Knowledge is to be used for growth not sold or Inherited How can we

become better if denied this basic Concept.

One of my favorite Quotes from Oprah Winfrey is

“When You Know Better, You Do Better”

so do better in your life, focus on Positive Energy, Everything in Life is made of Positive

and negative, in Negative transform it to Positive.
